The challenge

Smallholder coffee farmers typically sell to middlemen and receive only 20% – 30 % of the final consumer price. Most of the coffee growth in Colombia can be considered ‘speciality’ due to the type of soil and different heights. Farmers lack the knowledge to differentiate the quality of the coffee. Coffee is either wasted or undervalued, even if is high-quality specialty coffee.

The innovation

Clearpath Coffee aims to improve the lives of smallholder coffee farmers by providing :

  • infrastructure and a market through a co-exporting model that makes farmers partners in all transactions.
  • trainings in which farmers learn new methods on how to cultivate and process the coffee.

The impact

Clearpath Coffee’s work helps smallholder farmers to export the best types of speciality coffee varieties. The smallholder farmers are able able to access fair wages, earning an additional 51% income vs  the conventional market.
